As a young mother surrounded by women in similar circumstances, I had an opportunity to see how differently Black and white moms are supported.
Anxiety and stress are common experiences for people of all backgrounds, but Black Americans are disproportionately affected by these mental health conditions. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Black adults are more likely than white adults to experience anxiety disorders and to report feeling stressed on a daily basis.
Newly released body camera footage out of Springfield, Illinois reveals the brutal murder of Sonya Massey, a 36-year old Black mother of two children who was fatally shot by police in her own home earlier this month. Yesterday, the Ohio Senate voted 24-8 to override Governor Mark DeWine’s earlier veto of House Bill 68, a Bill sponsored by Republican Representative Gary Click. House Bill 68 will be implemented in roughly 90 days and is one of 21 states to have banned gender-affirming care in the United States.
