Sistah Speak Youth Project
What is SistahSpeak! Youth Project
We want to develop a leadership pipeline of young Black women, femmes and girls who will become leaders, organizers, and advocates against gender, race, and reproductive issues in their lives, schools and communities.
Pennsylvania has few community resources focused solely on the complete health and wellbeing of Black women, girls, and femmes. SYP! recognizes and affirms the need for young Black women, femmes and girls to openly discuss the things that matter to them, get support, and develop critical thinking and real-world skills in a safe, inclusive space created for and by them.x
We invite you to sign up for the SistahSpeak! Youth Project summer Session. The SYP! Summer session functions through a framework focused on Self-Help: a peer counseling tool originating with the Black women’s health movement that affirms women of color as the experts of our experiences, validates our humanity acknowledging our full range of emotions we experience, uses self-disclosure exercises to initiate healing and collaborative processes, reveals stories of Human Rights violations (SisterSong) with the goal of healing ourselves, families and communities and solidarity when our activism becomes challenging.
This year’s summer program will expose participants to the basic definition of ORGANIZING & other approaches to social change work: service & leadership development. We will also discuss current events, have group break out sessions that promote teamwork, cash incentives, and maintain an open safe space to express needs, wants, and fears during this time. The State of Sex Education in Pennsylvania
What are students currently being taught? Where is the system failing them? What reforms are necessary? How does comprehensive sex education fit into the larger fight for social justice, and how can you join the movement? Over the next few months the SistahSpeak! Youth Project will bring awareness to these very important questions.
Be on the lookout for:
- The reintroduction of legislation that brings Sex Ed mandates to PA school districts
- a week of action to bring education and opportunities to help in this fight
- a month dedicated to #Sex Ed for all (Picturs to use below)
